Marvin Ray Hodge, 72, passed away at his home on Thursday April 13, 2017. Known as Ray to many, he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2013, yet it was end-state lung disease that ultimately took his final breath.

Ray leaves his loving wife, Sharon, they would have celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary on May 27. He also leaves a son, Marvin Ray (Paco) Hodge of Espanola, NM and two brothers, George Hodge and Danny Hammett of Wichita Falls, TX. He was preceded in death by his mother, Alpha Cook Hammett; father, Marvin Ray Hodge, Sr., and sister Darlene Doyle Schroeder.

Ray worked for Texas Utilities until the late 80's taking early retirement to pursue a career in Optometry. Upon obtaining an Associates Degree from Durham Technical College in North Carolina, he and his wife relocated to Memphis TN. In January 2013 he retired from Walmart Vision Center in Millington,TN.

Ray was a kind and loving man to the very end. The disease that robbed him of his mind left the best part…his heart. No matter who served him, he thanked them and only communicated nice and loving words toward them. He was a wonderful friend and loving husband. He is missed dearly.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 30 in the chapel of Lindenwood Christian Church, 2400 Union Avenue in Memphis. The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials to be sent to Memphis Humane Society, Doctors Without Borders or a .
