Mary King Carrier of Memphis, Tennessee passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2017 surrounded by her family at Methodist Hospice Residence at age 89. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and a beloved wife.

Mary was born October 1st, 1927 to Irene and John King in Birmingham, Alabama but she spent her childhood in Fort Payne, Alabama. She attended Jacksonville State University where she met her husband, who was stationed at a nearby army base. She married William "Bill" Carrier on December 7, 1946, and they remained married until her death 71 years later. After their wedding, Mary and Bill moved to Nashville to complete his education. Upon graduation, they moved to Memphis where they lived 50 years. While residing in Memphis, Mary started a children's consignment shop, Saks 2 for Kids. She became a licensed real estate agent and served as President of the Professional Engineering Society Auxiliary. Mary was a member of Second Presbyterian Church. Mary and Bill retired to Punta Gorda, Florida for 20 years. They recently returned to Memphis to be with family.

Besides her husband, Mary is survived by their five children and their spouses: John and Deborah Carrier, Carla and Ken Murdock, Henry and Mary Mac Carrier, Michael and Evie Carrier, and Michelle and Tim Stallard. She is also survived by ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren: David Carrier, Brian Murdock, Patrick Murdock, Hank Carrier, Annie Carrier, Chris Carrier, Ashley Stallard, Mike Carrier, Laura Carrier, Mary Allison Stallard, Banks Murdock, Sally Murdock, Ridge Murdock, David Murdock, and Mollie Ann Carrier. She is survived by two step grandchildren and six step great-grandchildren: Ginny and Mike Davis, Noa Eason, Katie Davis, Leah Davis, Beka Davis, Michael Davis, Hank Davis, and Joshua Davis.

Mary loved to travel, visiting locales in South America, Asia, and Europe. Her favorite charity was the Salvation Army, and she loved to give back to her community. She will be missed by many. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Carriage Court, Methodist Hospital Germantown, and Methodist Hospice for their care and kindness.

The arrangements are being made by Memorial Park Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 5 at 9:30 a.m. followed by a graveside service at 10:30 a.m. The family requests that donations be made to Methodist Hospice Residence or Le Bonheur Children's Hospital.
