Mary Wrenetta McCain, 91, of Memphis, died on March 12, 2017 in her home. Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina on February 2, 1926, she was the daughter of Arthur W. McCain and Marion Vinsonhaler McCain. Her parents moved to Scarsdale, New York in 1928, and she attended Scarsdale public schools through tenth grade. In 1942 she transferred to The Masters School, Dobbs Ferry, New York from which she graduated in June, 1944. She attended Vassar College before transferring to Hood College from which she received a B.A. degree in English in 1950. At Hood, she was a member of the Mortar Board Honor Society and was dubbed the "Campus Clown" in the college yearbook. She attended Columbia University School of Library Science where she received an M.L.S. degree in 1954. She was a reference librarian at the Chevron Corporate Library in San Francisco from 1955 to 1985 when she retired. She moved to Memphis to be where her mother and married sister lived. She enjoyed travelling and watching Grand Slam tennis tournaments. For many years, she read the Commercial Appeal for the visually impaired on WYPL, the Memphis Public Library radio station. She belonged to several book clubs, liked music and was a longtime and active member of Church of the Holy Communion.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Frances McCain Maury of Memphis and is survived by her brother, Arthur W. McCain, Jr. and his wife Margaret D. McCain of Fairfield, Connecticut, as well as eight nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 24, 2017 at Church of the Holy Communion, followed by a reception in Cheney Parish Hall.
