Memphis, TN

Matthew Robert Davis III, 69, of Memphis, died Friday, August 11, 2017. Visitation will be Thursday, August 17 from 3-8 p.m. and Friday, August 18 from 10-10:55 a.m., with funeral service to follow at 11 a.m., all at Trinity CME Church, 1096 Thomas Street, Memphis, Tennessee 38107. Interment will follow in Northridge Woodhaven Cemetery in Millington, Tennessee.

Matthew, a retired Shelby County Schools educator and musician, was actively engaged in numerous religious, civic, masonic and fraternal organizations. A lifelong member of Trinity, Matthew held official positions in all connectional levels of the CME Church. He devoted his life to serving others through the NAACP, Prince Hall Masonry, Moolah Shrine Temple, Kappa Alpha Psi, VFW, the Lions Club, the Elks Lodge, the retired TEA, NEA, AARP, Lewis Senior Center, Phi Delta Kappa, Knights of Pythias, the United Supreme Council, and the CCFC, just to name a few... Additionally, Matthew served his county with a 2 year stint in the US Army.

A graduate of Manassas High School, Matthew received his BA from Lane College and his MA from Clark Atlanta University.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Matthew R. Davis, Jr. and Floy Willie Dixon Davis. His survivors include a brother, Melvin L. Davis, Sr. of Newport, KY; a sister, Debra A. Davis; a nephew, Melvin L. Davis II (Jessica) of Houston, TX; a niece, Megan Laverne Davis of Montgomery, AL, and a

"sister of the heart" and caregiver, Frances LaVerne Martin of Los Angeles, CA.
