Mildred Tanoff Levine, age 94, died peacefully surrounded by family at Carrick Glen Senior Living in Mount Juliet, TN on May 29, 2017. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Levine, daughter, Robbie Diane Levine, parents, Murray and Esther Tanoff, and sister, Jean Tanoff. Survived by son, Mark Harris Levine and daughter-in-law, Diane Hagey Levine of Mount Juliet, TN; brother, Sidney Tanoff and nephew, Micheal Tanoff of Kalamazoo Michagan.

Born in Brooklyn, NY on December 27, 1922 to Murray and Esther Tanoff who emigrated from Russia, Mildred shared a home with her siblings, sister, Jean, and brother, Sidney. Mildred grew up during the depression era which gave her a lifelong appreciation of what was most important in life. As an active kid growing up, Mildred enjoyed sports, playing handball with friends, and following the New York Yankees baseball team. After graduating from high school, she and her friend Pearlie rode a train from New York to Florida one summer where they found work and spent time enjoying the beach.

After World War II, Mildred married the boy next door, Joe Levine who had returned from the war. Joe's work took them to Chattanooga, TN, where they started their family and raised their two children, Mark and Robbie. Mildred also did volunteer work at Erlanger Hospital as a Pink Lady and worked in retail sales at the Casual Corner where she was named top Salesperson several times. During her time in Chattanooga, she was also active at the Jewish Community Center, enjoyed playing bridge and golf with friends. After the children were grown she and Joe moved to Florida where she continued to enjoy an active life style.

Following her husbands death in 2015, Mildred moved to Memphis, TN to be near her daughter, Robbie, and life long friend for over 60 years, Lydia Kaset. She remained in Memphis for 10 years and then moved to Mt. Juliet, TN to be near her son, Mark after her daughter passed away in 2015.

Mildred was a bright, strong and intelligent woman who stayed engaged in current events throughout her life. All who knew her will miss her greatly.

A memorial service will be held in the chapel at Temple Israel in Memphis, TN at 2:30 p.m., Friday, June 16 for those who would like to attend. Memorial donations may be made, in lieu of flowers, to a .
