Myra Faye Dickey Obituary
Myra Faye Dickey

Memphis, TN

Myra Faye Ellison Dickey was born May 2, 1920, in Purvis, MS, to Jesse Turner and Bama Odessa Ellison. She went to be with her Savior peacefully in her sleep on May 16, 2017. In 1940 she met her future husband, Robert Dickey. She and her sisters were participating in their church service; Myra was playing her accordion. Robert, being musical himself, thought "I sure would like to meet this young lady". They were married in 1941. After his service in the U. S. Navy (World War II), they moved to Memphis in 1946. Myra was a homemaker and loving mother to their five children. When Robert decided to form a bluegrass band, he helped her learn to play the upright bass, which was taller than she was! She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, her parents, and her siblings: Lowell Ellison, Mildred Jones, Leitha Kerley, and Geneva Townsend. She is survived by children: Cathy Dickey, Memphis; Milton Dickey (Kathy), Collierville; Janet Haas (John), Memphis; Jeanine Smith (Wallace), Fairbanks, Alaska; and Louella Gravatt, Horn Lake, MS. Grandchildren: Kimberly Sartain (Jason), Bartlett; Elizabeth Burke (Jacob), Raleigh, NC; Joseph Haas, Memphis; Joshua Smith (Whiley), Marietta, GA; Alicia Gaston (John), Rachel Conner (Drew), Marion, AR; Elaine Browning (Jacob), Yokosuka, Japan; Jennifer Haas, Sapporo, Japan; and Jeff Fowler, Norris, TN. Great grandchildren: Cade and Ashlyn Sartain, Anneliese and Roland Conner, Stone Gaston, and Helen Burke; her brother, Jesse Ellison, Jr. (Betty), Jackson, CA; and many nieces and nephews. Myra was a faithful member of First Baptist Church for 70 years. She was a member of the senior group and choir. She was a church sewing group member --- her specialty was adorable wooly lambs for pediatric patients.

Visitation will be at 2:00, First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, with service at 3:00 in the Chapel, 200 E. Parkway N., on Saturday, May 20, 2017. Interment will be in Brookhaven, MS.
