Nancy Flowers was born in McComb, MS to Mary Lee Gunter and Joseph Carruth Flowers on September 28, 1928. She died at home after a brief illness. She graduated from the Mississippi University for Women in 1954 and from The University of Tennessee College of Medicine with her MD in 1958 and a postgraduate fellowship in Cardiology and Cardiac Electrophysiology.

She authored over 180 professional publications, many co-authored with her husband of 53 years, Dr. Leo G. Horan. She received a lifetime achievement award from the UT Medical School and was the first female president of the Association of University Cardiologists. More importantly, she was an extraordinary wife, mother and friend.

Dr. Flowers Horan is survived by her husband, Leo, daughters, Tracey Rensel and Paige LoPour (Greg), grand-daughter Sarah Rensel all of Albuquerque, NM and her step-son, David Horan (Pamela) of Memphis and grand-daughter Morgan Horan of Silver Springs, MD.

Services will be March 25, 2017 at 11 am at Shepherd of the Valley Presbyterian Church, 1801 Montano Rd NW, Albuquerque, NM 87107. A reception will immediately follow in the Fellowship Hall.
