Nelda Joyce Jaynes, 85, of Memphis, Tennessee, was born on July 15, 1931, in Florence, Alabama, and passed peacefully from this earth to her Heavenly home on July 13, 2017, surrounded by some of her children and grandchildren. She was a member of White Station Church of Christ.

Preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Alice Johnson of Florence, Alabama; her brother, Tom Johnson, of Montgomery, Alabama; and her husband, Douglas Jaynes, of Memphis, Tennessee.

Survivors include her sisters, Doris Caudill of Mishawaka, Indiana, Barbara Letson, of Florence, Alabama, and Virgina Pirkle of Fayette, Alabama; her children, Gregory Jaynes, of New Orleans, Louisiana, Teresa McLeod and her husband, Randy, of Searcy, Arkansas, Mike Jaynes of Memphis, Tennessee, Susan Smith of Memphis, Tennessee, and Philip Jaynes and his wife, Vicki, of Hickory Valley, Tennessee; 14 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.

Our mother and "mamaw" was truly the Proverbial woman, always caring for her family first. She was an extraordinary home-maker, seamstress, cook, gardener, canner, painter, furniture refinisher and any other task she set her mind to doing! She was pragmatic and self-disciplined, and taught her children and grandchildren so many lessons used on a daily basis. She was a servant to many, and was always there to help whatever the need.

Visitation will be at 1 p.m., Tuesday, July 18, at Memphis Funeral Home, 3700 N. Germantown Parkway, with a Memorial Service to follow at 2 p.m.

The family would like to thank "Ms. Joyce's" caretakers, Carrie Williams and Kim Mathis for taking the best of care of their mother the last three years, and also The Amedisys Family for outstanding service.
