Oney Shaw Johnson Jr. died on September 17, 2017 after a brief illness. Shaw was born on March 12, 1931 in Clarksdale, Mississippi. He was the beloved only child of Ruth Dugger and Oney Shaw Johnson; his parents predeceased him.

After graduating from Clarksdale High School, he attended and graduated from the University of Mississippi. He was president of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. Shaw and Martha Mims Maynard were married on June 5, 1954. He served as an officer in the United States Navy in Norfolk, VA before moving home. Shaw was a third generation owner and president of J.H. Johnson Insurance Company, Inc. He was president of the Independent Insurance Agents of Mississippi and state national director. He was also on the board of Covenant Bank.

As a citizen of Clarksdale, he was unwaivering in his love and service to his community. He was president of the Rotary Club and led many organizations and efforts to better his hometown.

Shaw loved the First United Methodist Church and devoted his time and energy to his faith. He was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church, a Sunday school teacher, and member of the Board of Trustees.

Shaw Johnson Jr. was above all a devoted husband, father and grandfather. His wife, Martha Mims, predeceased him in 2015. He is survived by his four children: Betsy Johnson Corso (Al), Dugger Johnson Green, Mims Johnson Rodgers (Rodge), and O. Shaw Johnson III (Beth). He also leaves his ten grandchildren, Gerald Alexander Gafford III (Jessica), Julia Elizabeth Corso, Albert Cruse Corso, Daniel O. Green Jr., William Shaw Green, Martha Mims Rodgers, Edward Andrew Rodgers, Katherine Elizabeth Rodgers, O. Shaw Johnson IV, Elizabeth Shelton Johnson, and one great-grandchild, June Elizabeth Gafford.

Services for Shaw will be held at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church preceded by visitation at 9 a.m. Wednesday, September 20. A family burial will be earlier at Oakridge Cemetery.
