Phil Edwin Manning, 86, of Bonita Springs, FL, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at Avow Hospice in Naples, FL. Born in Memphis, TN to Guy and Bertha Manning he began his career as a rated Navy musician and then attained a BFA from the Memphis Academy of Arts and MFA from the University of Mississippi in painting and ceramics. He taught studio courses in visual arts and lectured at several universities.

Painter, potter, poet, calligrapher, fencer, drummer, fossil finder, coin collector, philosopher, and professor, Phil Manning was a Renaissance man who always appreciated a good plate of southern food.

He is survived by his two daughters, Erin Manning of Manhattan Beach, CA and Lauren (Michael) Shelley of North Richland Hills, TX and two brothers, Larry (Marilee) Manning of Naples, FL and Guy Hal (Nancy) Manning of Alexandria, VA and loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
