Richard Anthony "Dick" McStay Obituary
Richard Anthony McStay

Memphis, TN

Richard Anthony "Dick" McStay died peacefully on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at the age of eighty, after a long but gracious struggle with Parkinson's Disease.

Dick was born to Hugh and Beatrice McStay in New York City on December 3, 1936, the second of seven children. He attended secondary school at Miramar Seminary School in Duxbury, Massachusetts, and held many fond memories of his time there. After graduating from Providence College and graduate study at Boston College, he worked at Rhode Island Hospital Trust Bank in Providence for several years. During that time, he also served as a Second Lieutenant in the Rhode Island National Guard. In 1968, he and his young family moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where he worked for Robinson Humphrey and then Irby & Company. In 1974, he moved to Memphis to begin the research department at the newly-started Morgan, Keegan and Company. During his twenty-plus-year tenure at Morgan Keegan, he held many roles, including President of Southern Capital Advisors. He also held numerous positions on various corporate boards, and supported many local and national charities.

Dick was passionate about sailing and traveling, and especially the combination of the two. He also enjoyed photography, the RedSox, Tiger basketball and, most of all, being with family. He loved his summers in Newport, Rhode Island, both on the water and on his balcony.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Betsy Boyce McStay, and their children, Jared McStay (Lori Gienapp McStay), Melissa McStay (Carlos Gomez) and Moriah McStay Lee (Samuel Lee.) He had six grandchildren, all his pride and joy, Hank McStay, Madeleine Lee, Samantha Lee, Gabriel Gomez, Claire Lee, and Isabel Gomez. He is also survived by his siblings, Bill (Susan), Marianne Plante (Willy), Patricia Tramonti, Rosalie Wotton, Jim (Cheryl), and Peter (Missy); his brothers-in-law, Ed Boyce (Micheline), Dick Boyce (Marjorie), and sister-in-law, Kate Waldron (Henry), as well as everyone's many children and grandchildren. In addition, Dick was blessed with many life-long friends who also loved him dearly.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, August 2 at Canale Funeral Directors. Funeral Mass will be 1 p.m. Thursday, August 3 at St. Peter Catholic Church, with burial to follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
