Sylvia Lynne Lashley Obituary
Sylvia Lynne Lashley

Memphis, TN

Lynne Lashley, 72, passed away suddenly in the early morning hours of March 22, 2017, at her home in Memphis. To all who knew her, she was a kind and sweet spirit, a dedicated educator and caretaker, and a loving mother, wife, sister, daughter, and friend. A Mississippi girl, she was born in Corinth on December 10, 1944 to Pearl and Sylvesta Nash, and grew up there and in Meridian and Hattiesburg. She played the flute in her high school band and toured Europe with the Lions All State Band in 1962. She attended the University of Southern Mississippi and later graduated with a Bachelor's in Education from the University of Mississippi. Lynne taught second grade in the Shelby County School System for 33 years. She began her career at Capleville Elementary in 1968, then moved on to Ross Elementary, and then Germantown Elementary, where she remained for twenty years. She earned her Master's degree in Education from the University of Memphis in 1980. In 2001, she retired from teaching to take care of her ill husband and their many adored pets.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Randy Lashley, and stepson, Randy Lashley, Jr. She leaves a son, Stephen Huff (Tom Dillehay) of New York City; a sister, Barbara Ascani (Nick) of New Orleans; and a sister-in-law, Sandy Kay (Jay) of St. Louis; along with many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, cousins, and friends.

A memorial service will be held at the Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Avenue, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 26. She will be interred next to her husband in the Arcadia Valley Cemetery in Ironton, MO on Monday, March 27, with a graveside service around noon. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Humane Society of Memphis and Shelby County would be appreciated.
