Thomas Clifton Harviel Jr. Obituary
Thomas Clifton Harviel, Jr.

Memphis, TN

Clif was a loving father and grandfather. He is survived by his daughter, Dr. Jennifer Harviel Karnes, her husband Stephen Karnes, and his two granddaughters, Maeve Lindsey, 13, and Lillian Ann Karnes, 11.

Clif was preceded in death by his mother, Ann Gill Harviel and father, Thomas Clifton Harviel, and granddaughter Mary Alice Karnes.

Clif was a respected defense attorney in the city for over 40 years. He worked as a federal public defender for over 20 years and in private practice for the remainder of his career. He felt a calling to provide the best counsel for defendants in our court system. Clif was an avid judge in barbeque contests around the Mid-South and the country. He was honored to judge in the Memphis in May, Kansas City, and Jack Daniels barbeque competitions.

Clif struggled with depression his entire life. His family urges all individuals and family members and friends of individuals suffering from depression to seek help to see the light in life and value of love.

There will be a reception from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, May 28 in the Library of The University Club.

In later years, Clif discovered a love of German Shepherd dogs. The family requests that any gifts or donations be made to the Mary Alice Karnes Memorial Book Scholarship at the Mississippi State College of Veterinary Medicine.
