Sergeant First Class (Ret.) Walker Curtis Liner, Jr.

Tuscaloosa, AL

Sergeant First Class (Ret.) Walker Curtis Liner, Jr. passed away peacefully on March 26, 2017 surround by his family. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. will be held at Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Friday, March 31, 2017. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Valley View Baptist church with Brother Billy Joy officiating.

Curtis was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was born in Georgia on June 10, 1936 but lived in Tuscaloosa, Ala. most of his life. He was a graduate of Brookwood High and attended Shelton State College and University of Alabama. He spent four years in the Navy and 29 years in the Army National Guard. He also spent ten years at the U.S. Post Office in Tuscaloosa and retired after 14 years as the Personnel Officer for the U.S. postal inspection service in Memphis where he met his wife of 37 years. He was a member Valley View Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Annette C. Liner; son, Robert Curtis Liner (Charlotte); grandson, Robert; daughter, Angelia L. Sexton (Jerry); granddaughter, Lindsey and stepson, Frank Ecoff (Lupita); grandson, Andrew; granddaughter, Kaitlyn and stepson, Roy Ecoff; sister, Pat Watkins (Joe); brother, Jerry Liner (Miriam); and brother Roger Liner.

He was preceded in death by his father, Rev. Walker Curtis Liner, Sr.; his mother, Mary Stewart Liner; brother, Charles Lendon Liner; and sister Peggy Liner Hayes.

He was an alumnus of Brookwood High and always looked forward to attending their annual reunions. He also enjoyed meeting monthly with his classmates of '56 for lunch and their annual reunions. He was an avid Alabama football fan and never missed seeing a game.

He was a wood turner and made many beautiful bowls and pens. He also enjoyed growing the daylily flower, was a show judge, and hybridized and registered two of his daylilies named "Chief Tuscaloosa" and "Chief Dubbleface".

Pallbearers will be Bobby Liner, Robert Liner, Jerry Sexton, Caleb Jackson, Frank Ecoff, Andrew Ecoff and Roy Ecoff.

Honorary pallbearers are members of Steve Wyatt's Sunday School Class of Valley View Baptist Church.
