William Harold Posey Jr. Obituary
William Harold Posey, Jr.

Memphis, TN

William Harold Posey Jr., 80, of Memphis, passed away on September 5, 2017. Bill attended Catholic High School for Boys and then joined the Tennessee Army National Guard and later the Army. He subsequently joined the Memphis Fire Department where he rose to the rank of Deputy Chief. While on the MFD, he returned to school and graduated from Christian Brothers College. After twenty plus years, he moved to Hendersonville, TN and served as their Fire Chief for twelve years. He went on to sell Fire Fighting equipment before retiring to spend time with his Grandchildren and to battle bream on the Tennessee River at their Ponderosa home.

Like many selfless and brave men that serve as Firefighters, he was true hero. He ran into many burning buildings over his long career to save lives and property. On one occasion, while in Hendersonville, he ran in to tell his men to get out when the roof fell on top of him. After a short stay in the hospital, he was back at it. He told us he was two inches shorter after that blow to the head.

Dad had many passions. Besides his love for fishing, he loved coaching Junior High football (at both Our Lady of Sorrows and Holy Rosary), watching his kids and grandkids play sports, cooking killer steaks on Saturday, cheering for UT football, drinking the occasional J&B and watching any John Wayne movie. He was a wonderful Husband, Father and Grandfather. Most importantly, he was a devout Catholic and was passionate about his Faith in Jesus. He will be missed very much, but we know he is in Heaven with the Lord.

Bill is survived by his wife of sixty years, Shelby; two brothers that were also Firemen, Sam and Henry; four children, Billy (Gayle), Stan (Cherine), John and Tina and eleven Grandchildren, Davis, Will, John Oliver, Caleb, Annie, Joshua, Sarah, Annalea, Mark, Allie and Emma. Visitation will be this Saturday at Calvary Cemetery, 1663 Elvis Presley Blvd at 10 a.m., with a service to follow at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the .
