Willie R. "Rick" Lewis Obituary
Willie R. "Rick" Lewis

Germantown, tn

Willie R. "Rick" Lewis, 95, passed away August 6, 2017. He served in the military from 1942 to 1945 as a WWII Navy Veteran on the original USS Essex, which he was involved in nine major engagements. He came home to meet the prettiest girl he ever saw, Bessie at Russwood ballpark. They were married August 25, 1946 with first son, Rickey arriving April of 1948 and second son, Michael August of 1954. Later after Bessie's death he met and married Lurlie. Rick worked at TVA where he retired as an assistant plant superintendent. Rick was an avid bowler beginning in 1959 and later drilled and plugged bowling balls in his own self built shop in his backyard. At the age of 75, Rick bowled his first and only 300 game and was believed to be the oldest player to do so in Tennessee. At the age of 92, he still was bowling three times a week. This was a passionate skill he passed on to his son and grandchildren.

He was a devoted family man who loved attending his grandchildren sports activities and spending time with them in all aspects of their lives.

Rick was preceded in death by wife, Bessie Owen Lewis and Lurlie "Little Bit" Lewis; son, Al Rickey Lewis, both parents and three brothers. He is survived by son, Mike Lewis; grandchildren, Al Rickey Lewis, Jr., Michael Lewis, Jr., and Melissa Lewis (Daren); daughter in law, Regina Lewis.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 9 from 6-8 p.m. at Family Funeral Care. The service will be Thursday, August 10 at 2 p.m. at Family Funeral Care, with burial to follow in Memorial Gardens.
