William (Pee Wee) Bell Jr., 101, transitioned on February 9, 2017 at his residence. William was born to Elizabeth (Lizzie) Bledsoe and William Bell on November 30, 1915 in Capleville, TN; he attended Polk Chapel, Capleville Elementary and Geeter High School, where he played baseball and basketball.

In 1942 he enlisted into the United States Navy, Fireman 1st Class. He was a World War II veteran assigned to the USS Jefferson Carrier Ship's Company, stationed in Great Lake, IL, New Orleans, LA, California, Hawaii and Guam. 1946-1950 he was employed with Inter City Trucking Company as a freight Checker and truck driver. He retired from Goldsmith's Department Store in 1979 where he was the Display Manager. He also served as the Baseball Manager for Goldsmith's Barons men and women teams. A deacon and usher. He was the oldest member of New Hickory Hill Missionary Baptist Church. He is survived by his children, Louise Reed Thomas, Sara Starks (Nathaniel), Lester Dunigan (Canary), William Bell III, Mary Tate Evans, Marvin Bell, Darrell Bell and Carolyn Lewis, two sisters, Mary Agnes Nolan and Frances Rice, 25 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, 48 great-great-grandchildren, three great-great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday, February 17, 2017 at M.J. Edwards Funeral Home, 1165 Airways Blvd. Funeral services, Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 12 o'clock, at New Hickory Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 6580 East Raines Rd., and Tuesday, February 21 at 9:45 a.m. Interment in West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, 4000 Forest Hill Irene Road, Memphis, TN 38125.
