Obituary Condolences

Daniel Noyes Copp, Sr., of Memphis, TN died peacefully this morning in Prout’s Neck ME surrounded by his family. He was 93. “Dan” was born in Chicago Heights, IL to Belton Allyn Copp and Elizabeth Thoeming. He attended Memphis schools and graduated from the Phillips Exeter Academy and Yale University, Class of ‘43. From 1943 to 1945, Lieutenant Copp served in the U.S. Navy on the battleship Tennessee. He saw action in the Pacific theater from the Aleutians to the South Sea Islands. Returning to Memphis after the war, he partnered with Richard Wilson, a Yale classmate, to form Wilco Machine Works, a supplier of machinery to furniture manufacturers and other wood-working companies throughout the Southeast. He was a long-time member of the Forest Products Research Association and organized numerous spring charter flights to the World Fair for the Forestry and Wood Industries in Hanover Germany. He leaves his wife, Nancy McFadden Copp and nine children: three children of a previous marriage, a son Daniel of Memphis, and two daughters, Elizabeth Copp Evans of Sewickley PA and Mary Lee Copp of Memphis; a sister, Betsey Copp Halsey of Mystic CT; six step-children, Barclay McFadden of Charleston, SC, Andy McFadden of Athens, Georgia, John and Stillman McFadden of Germantown, TN, Nancy Cannon of Greenwich CT and Ledyard McFadden of Manchester, MA. Dan is also survived by twenty-seven grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. There will be a private family service on Cumberland Island, GA.
