I remember how much fun it was to dress as toy soldiers, marching in the Memphis Christmas Parade down Main Street in the winter of 1963. And all those football games and half-time performances on the field! I remember once when I was about sixteen, confiding to him that I feared growing old. "But we will always have music!" he said kindly. He was such a positive influence on so many young people.

To the Family of Charles Cahill,
I extend my sincere sympathy for your loss. Charlie was my wife's uncle, and a very kind, gentle, talented man. I enjoyed the time I spent with him and his entertaining phone calls. I regret that, due to commitments, I will be unable to attend his service, but my wife Janie will be there. Charlie will be missed by a large family and many friends, and I hope you will all find comfort in remembering what a special person he was.
Love to all, John Lovett, Falls Mill, TN

My Uncle Charlie brought us exotic presents from foreign lands back in the late 1950's when he traveled with the US Navy. I was very lucky to see him again in Memphis, more than fifty years later, and find that he retained his warmth and zest for life. He told great stories. I'm sorry I won't be able to hear any more of them.

FAMILY~
I'm Praying the Lord will hold you close and give you a peace that passes understanding during this difficult time.
"Mr. Cahill" as I set at my desk just a short period ago thinking "Whatever happen to Mr. Cahill" our ("75-77" Vance Middle School Band Teacher) Tap! Tap! goes the baton as I can remember "EVERYBODY" set up straight and gave him our UNDIVIDED attention... So well dressed, mild mannered and "LOVED" teaching. He would often add a little humor before class dismissal - "When you start driving never go past the speed limit (I don't and it helps you to only have to fill up once a week or longer)", then we'd ask what do people do while you're moving at 25-30 mph (Ohh! they'll Go Around).. Basically when you drive the same route they'll know it's you..:) Ahh!!! what a wonderful soul he was and I appreciate his guidance during that period.. He left his caring mark on many of his students and taught me about confidence in learning how to play my darling flute. Thank You FAM for sharing him with those that you never knew, however his caring heart will never be forgotten ...
~R.I.P~ The "Maestro" with the baton and those of us that LISTEN!! learned.. THANK YOU! Mr. Cahill

Mr. Cahill was band director at Millington Central High School when I was a Freshman there ... many wonderful hours spent in the band room, researching and designing a program for the Latin American Music Festival; we met again in 1966 when my father was in ICU at St. Joseph's Hospital in Memphis; his wife was in the ICU, having been severely burned in a barbeque grill fire. He was an exceptional friend and teacher. Rest in peace, my friend.

I had the privilege to sit next to Charlie for many years in the choir loft at St Peter Catholic Church. His devotion to his Lord and Church music was an inspiration to us all as he maneuvered those many steps up and down every Sunday for so many years. His bright smile lit up everyone he met. May he Rest In Peace as his voice is lifted up in the Heavens.
