Richard Seamans Obituary

NORTH HAMPTON - Richard G. Seamans, Jr., 79, of North Hampton, died Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at Northeast Rehabilitation Hospital.

He was born in Concord September 9, 1932 a son of the late Richard G. and Ruth (Holmes) Seamans, Sr.

Richard was raised in Franklin and was a graduate of Franklin High School with the Class of 1950. He attended and graduated from the University of New Hampshire with the Class of 1954 where he received his Bachelor's degree in Forestry. Following graduation from college he proudly served two years in the Army during the Korean War.

Mr. Seamans worked for the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department for 21 years, during which he wrote monthly articles for Outdoor Life and was also very active in the Salmon preservation effort. Richard later worked for the National Marine Fisheries Service until his retirement in 1994.

Richard was a generous and devoted family man who was known for his large gardens and various woodworkings. He was an avid outdoorsman who especially enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing tennis. Richard also liked participating in community theater in Pittsfield with the Pittsfield Players during the 1970's.

Family members include his wife of 57 years, Barbara (Eckberg) Seamans of North Hampton; sons, Mark Seamans of Albuquerque, N.M., Charles Seamans and his wife Sandra of Epping; daughters, Lauralyn Hungerford of Lexington, Ky., Monica Seamans of North Hampton, Penny Magee of Exeter; brother Sidney Seamans and his wife Ann of Bedford, Mass.; sisters, Dorothy Benham and her husband John R. of Franklin, Diane Seamans of Franklin; six grandchildren; one great grandchild; several nieces, nephews and his loyal dog Emma.

Visitation will be Monday, July 2, from 10 to 11 a.m. in the in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home – Crematory, 811 Lafayette Rd., Hampton.

Services will immediately follow the visitation at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.

Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Richard's name to a conservation or environmental charity of one's choice.

To the Seamans Family,
My deepest condolences for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you in this, your time of great sorrow. I pray that God will comfort you and that you will find strength and peace from the loving memories of friends and family. Mr. Seamans was a kind man who was always welcoming to any kid you all brought home for a visit. again I am very sorrow for your loss.
