David Bradley Washburn (1944 - 2018)

LYME – David Bradley Washburn, 74, died Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at the Grafton County Nursing Home, North Haverhill, following an extended struggle with Parkinson's Disease.  

David was born in Lyme, Feb. 16, 1944, the only child of Carroll H. and Ruth E. (Reed) Washburn.  Raised in Lyme, he graduated from Hanover High School, Class of 1962.  He received his BA from the University of New Hampshire in 1966, his MeD from Keene State in 1992 and MLS from Brigham Young University in 1975.  He served as a Captain in the United States Air Force from October 1966 until his discharge in December 1970.  He was stationed at Orlando AFB Florida and Kadena AFB Okinawa, Japan.  David returned to New Hampshire and became Director of Learning Resources at New Hampshire Technical College, Stratham.  He later was a paraprofessional at Dana Biomedical Library at Dartmouth College, before becoming the staff Librarian at the New Hampshire State Hospital in Concord.  He is a former New Hampshire member of the Board of New England Regional Medical Library Services at Countway Library of Medicine at Harvard University.  He is Past President of the NH Libraries Trustees Association of the Health Science Libraries of New Hampshire and Vermont, the association of New Hampshire Law Libraries, and a former trustee of Converse Free Library, Lyme.  David served for 20 years as Lyme Town and School District Moderator, and in more recent years, he spent a year as a volunteer with ACORN and its board of directors in Lebanon.  He also served as President and was a life member of the Pierce Brigade, owners of the Franklin Pierce Manse in Concord. 

David was predeceased by his father, Carroll, on Dec. 21, 1997, and his mother, Ruth, on Aug. 1, 2004.

Surviving family members include several cousins and family friends.

There will be no calling hours.

The funeral service will be on Wednesday, April 18th, at 11 a.m. in the Lyme Congregational Church, 1 Dorchester Road, Lyme, with Pastor Amy Hayden officiating.  Burial will be at a later date in the family lot at Highland Cemetery, Lyme.

Memorial donations may be made to the Good Neighbor Health Clinic, 70 North Main Street, White River, Jct., VT 05001.  These donations will be in honor of Vijay M. Thadani, MD, PhD.

David's friends wish to thank the members of the Lyme community and the Lyme Congregational Church parish nurses who assisted him as he transitioned from his home as he required further assistance.  They are also grateful for the kindness David received from his caregivers at the Grafton County Nursing Home and Hanover Terrace.
