Michael Lusk
September 25, 1947 - January 3, 2013
Resident of Antioch
Mike, the youngest of Vern and Hazel Lusk's children, was born in Berkeley and raised in Pleasant Hill. He was an athlete, lettering in baseball, football and wrestling at Pleasant Hill High School, class of 1965. He earned his bachelors in psychology at Chico State and his teaching credential from St. Mary's College. He worked at Safeway with his father for several years and then began teaching and coaching at Dublin High School. After Prop 13, he left teaching and started working in sales, first at Laura Scudder's and then with Kar Products. In 2006, he opened Mike's Compressor Service and became happily self-employed.
Mike was married for over 30 years to his second wife Sheila and they raised their three children in the Clayton-Concord area. He spent his free time skiing, hiking and camping. He loved all music, from The Stones, to Bob Marley, to Jimmy Buffet. He enjoyed hot rods and classic cars and worked on his 1953 Ford F-100 whenever he could. His passion was photography. He always had his camera nearby, ready to capture family moments and to share his work with friends on Flickr or in a new book on Blurb.
Mike is survived by his children Tim Lusk (Gayla), Michael Bogan and Robyn Jones (Donavaughn), his granddaughter Makinley and his grandsons Jack and Sam. He is preceded in death by his wife Sheila, his parents Vern and Hazel, his brother Robert, and his grandson Brennen. He loved us all, taught us many things, and will be missed every day.
A memorial to celebrate his life will be held on Friday, January 18th, at 11:00am at St. Bonaventure Church located at 5562 Clayton Road in Concord.

Dear Lusk Family,
So sorry to hear of Mike's passing. Mike was my little brother in law in the 1960's. Some of his early serious photography is displayed and enjoyed in my home. He is remembered fondly. My best to the family.

I had more good times than I can count with Michael and Sheila. They both accepted me and let me be part of their family at a time when I REALLY needed that. Michael taught me how to ski,and would spend time talking to me about photography out in the garage. He had so much patience with people and was a truly incredible human being. I was beyond thrilled to have him and Sheila at my wedding and lucky to have him visit me last summer. I will miss him and miss his jokes, his gallery worthy photographs and, of course miss his great big smiles. Rest well my dear friend.

dear Lusk family,

I worked with both Mike and his father, Vern. Early on I made friends with Mike and would often go over to his house. That was in the 1970's. He was an intelligent and humorous guy. I am sad to learn of his passing. I hope the best to his family.
