MIDLAND — Funeral services for Ruby Gordon Maddox of Midland, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 15, 2009 in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Service. The committal will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery.The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday, March 14, 2009 from 6 until 8 p.m. Mrs. Maddox, 91, a former long-time resident of Cordele, died at her residence Thursday, March 12. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Moreland Maddox, Sr. Mrs. Maddox was born in Wilcox County and was the daughter of the late Thomas Hardy and Maggie Eula Cole Gordon. She was a dietician (RET) in the Crisp County School System and a member of Peavy Memorial United Methodist Church in Cordele. Mrs. Maddox is survived by her son and his wife, John Moreland Jr. and Lula Maddox, of Oceanside, CA; four grandchildren and their spouses, David and Tammy Maddox of Midland, Lisa and Bradley Dye of Hamilton, John and Brenda Maddox of Dothan, AL, and Crystal and Ken Gammie of Oceanside, CA; 11 great-grandchildren, Bradley Maddox, Emorie Maddox, Andrew Maddox, Jon Thomas Maddox, Jonathan Martin, Nathaniel Dye, Britney Santana, Ashley Santana, Hailey Santana, Melissa Grimm, and Kristina Grimm; a sister, Doris Critcher of Oklawaha, FL; brother-in-law and his wife, Fred and Patricia Maddox of Statesboro; and a sister-in-law, Allene Maddox of Cordele. She was preceded in death by siblings, Ray Reeves Gordon, Vance Gordon, Loaine Pitts and Betty Jo Beach. The family suggests that memorial contributions in honor of Mrs. Maddox may be made to Peavy United Methodist Church, 902 North Hickory Street, Cordele, GA 31015.
