Mary Louise Johnston

COSHOCTON : Mary Louise Johnston, age 91, of Coshocton, passed away on Monday, December 2, 2013. She was born in Coshocton on May 25, 1922, to the late Dr. William and Marie (Neff) Gertler.

Mary graduated from Coshocton High School in 1940 and became a Dental Assistant for many years. On December 28, 1940, she married Ward Johnston who passed away on January 10, 1999.

She was a member of Roscoe United Methodist Church; was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Moose, the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW 2040; a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader; and she taught Sunday school at both Grace United Methodist Church and St. John's United Church of Christ. Mary also enjoyed gambling, reading, and spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda Johnston Bown of Newcomerstown; caregiver and dear friend, Jane Kreidler of Coshocton; and two nephews, David Johnston of Akron and Larry Johnston of Oregon. Along with her parents and husband, Mary is preceded in death by her brother, Harold Gertler and sister Dr. Regina Crary.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, December 9, 2013, at Roscoe United Methodist Church at 11:00 am with Pastor Steve Sullivan and Pastor Richard Hoover officiating. Burial will follow at South Lawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mary's name to Hospice-Health Services of Coshocton 230 South 4th Street, Coshocton, Ohio 43812 or to Roscoe United Methodist Church, 475 High Street, Coshocton, Ohio 43812.
