Marilyn Cover Obituary
ASHLAND, OR: Marilyn Magness Cover, 88, of Ashland, Oregon, died on February 20, of natural causes.
Marilyn was born in Plainfield, OH, on February 4, 1922, to Jay Walter "JW" and Margaret Randles Magness. As a graduate of Plainfield High, Marilyn received a scholarship to, and graduated from, Ohio University, where she also met her future husband. She married Clarence Byron "Tony" Cover of Youngstown, OH, on August 10, 1942.
She and her husband lived in Jacksonville, FL, while Tony was stationed there in the Navy. After discharge they lived in both Columbus and New Concord, OH, where their three children were born and then in 1953 the family moved to Estes Park, CO. In 1959 they relocated to Lakeside, CA, where Marilyn taught English and was head of the Drama Club at Lakeside Middle School. In 1975 after retirement, Marilyn and Tony built homes and lived in Idyllwild, CA, and later near Crescent City, CA, on the Smith River. They moved in 2000 to Ashland, OR.
Throughout her life, Marilyn had many interests and pursuits including hiking, sailing, camping, cooking, painting, reading, and all aspects of stage theatre. She also very much enjoyed traveling and visiting with family and friends, near and far.
She was married to Tony for 65 years when he died on December 25, 2007. Surviving Marilyn are her three children, daughter, Janice Louise Therien and her husband Dr. Dale Bush of Medford, OR, son, Thomas Randle Cover and his partner Kathryn Johnson of McKinleyville, CA, and Beverly Jean Cover and her husband Bob Conley of Anchorage, AK. She is also survived by her grandson, Dr. Matthew Randle Cover and his wife Nancy Au of Inverness, CA; as well as her brother, Fielding Randle Magness and his wife Elizabeth of Plainfield, OH; and many other relatives and numerous friends.
To the end of her life Marilyn maintained her special brand of warmth and sparkles of humor which will be very much missed. She asked to have no formal ceremony after her death, but that both her and Tony's ashes be scattered in various locations of special significance.
