James Nelson Obituary

Funeral services for James H. Nelson, age 67, of Conroe will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2011 at 12:30 p.m. in Cashner Colonial Chapel with Reverend Brian Baker officiating. Interment will follow in Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday evening from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Cashner Funeral Home.

Jim departed this life, Sunday, December 18th, 2011 in Conroe, Texas. The youngest of five children born to Robert A. Nelson and Pearl D. Anderson, he made his debut in Houston, Texas near the close of WWII on July 27, 1944. Shortly thereafter, the Nelson family returned to Denison/Sherman in North Texas where they remained. Upon graduation from Denison High School in 1962, Jim joined the Marine Corps and served for 4 1/2 years. When discharged, he returned to Texas. Over the ensuing years, he earned his B.S. from Southeastern Oklahoma State University, worked in law enforcement, returned to Southeast Texas in 1977 and entered oilfield related employment in 1980. Eventually he was a partner in a successful pressure control systems manufacturing company. However, his greatest accomplishment was that he was a man who loved greatly - his God, his family, friends and those connected to his life and persevered to the end. Jim had a heart as big as Texas, never met a stranger, and always had time to encourage and pray for you. He touched lives and left a lasting impression. Those who knew him all agree, he was a rarity, a fine, loving, generous man and you were better for having known him. He will be sorely missed by all, gone too soon, but leaves us thankful that he was added to our lives.

Jim is survived by his wife of 37 1/2 years, Lynn Nelson; his and her children, Scott DuBois of Conroe, Nancy LeFleur of Corinth, Karen DuBois of Willis, Wendy Kerchner of Conroe and Amy Edney of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina; 14 grandchildren; brother, Bob Nelson of Bedford; sisters, Laura Lynn Bogatarev of Dallas and Barbara Dettman of Lewisville; and numerous nieces and nephews and brothers and sisters in the Lord. Among the host awaiting his arrival in Heaven were his son, Rene DuBois; granddaughter, Love Kerchner; and mother, Pearl D., who all preceded him over the last two years. Not sure what to say?

I have known Jim since 1985. He was my Best Man in 1991. Although we lost track of one another over the years since, he was remembered often for the kind and caring person that he was, and not forgotten. He was a loyal servant of the God Almighty.

I am deeply disappointed that I and so many others ave lost our great friend Jim. I was blessed to have his life cross over into mine about 10 years ago. Other than him trying to steal my dawg everytime i brought him aorund, I was so grateful for him being in my life. To his family and other friends, I join you in our loss and will always remember Jim in my heart. May you all have comfort that Jim is with God now.

Jim never gave up on me, never stopped praying for me, and never judged me. I lost my way many years ago and God put some wonderful people in my life that made a the biggest difference. I first meet Ginny Baker who introduced me to Lynn and Jim. I will never forget the love that two people could show someone they did not even know. Jim called me his baby from the start and there was nothing fake about it. I felt I was one of his children. Jim I will never forget you and will miss you always. Thank you for filling that void in my life.

Brother Jim
in memory of Jim Nelson

"Who is the man we know and love,
who is now embracing our Savior above?
Who is that man who would always proclaim
"GOD IS FAITHFUL" to honor His Name.

Brother Jim Nelson is the man we honor today,
closer than a brother, most of us could say.
Strength and compassion, mingled into one,
Wonderful husband, father, brother and son.

Brother Jim loved the Lord,
and lived his life to receive His grace.
That is our comfort,
to know he looks on Jesus' face.
Praises for the Lord,
through suffering and pain,
The cross of Christ, he took up,
and Heaven is his gain.

What would he say to us
if we could hear his voice?
"Jesus is worthy, make Him your choice.
Give Him your life, heart, body and mind,
Serving Jesus is the greatest joy you can find."

So much could be written of this beloved man,
Encompassing it all is his heart for God's plan.
Many were his virtues,
but exceeding everything....
He is called a friend of God,
A servant of the King."

John 15:14 "You are My friends if you do what I command you"

With much love from Ginny Lou Alloway Baker
