David Drummond, 66, passed away on May 20 th , 2014. Dave was born in the Callan Hospital in Rotan, Texas on the day after Christmas in 1947 to GW and Llera Drummond. Dave was raised on his Dad and Mom's dry-land farm in Western Jones County near Hamlin and Neinda along with his 3 brothers.
Dave attended the Hamlin Public School system where he exhibited early his athletic prowess in basketball, as well as in track & field where he won second in the mile at the State meet in Austin - as a junior. Dave's best time for the mile was 4:28 logged when he was a junior. He didn't compete as a senior due to a leg injury suffered while pole vaulting. He lettered two years in track, three years in basketball. Dave was also a member of FFA. His creative side led him to serve in the Hamlin Pied Piper Band as a percussionist for years - all under the direction of his bandleader, the singular Tim Jones. Dave was a member of National Honor Society, was president of the student body at Hamlin High in 1964-65, was vice president of the senior class, and was president of the Pied Piper Band. He was also named Mr. HHS his senior year.
Dave graduated from Hamlin High School as a member of the Class of 1965, and from Hardin Simmons University in 1970 with joint degrees in physical education and health. At Hardin Simmons Dave was a member of the Sigma fraternity, earned a scholarship to run the mile and two-mile races on the H-SU track squad, and was a member of ROTC.
Dave is survived by his wife, Gale (Lain) Drummond of Conroe, TX; brother-in-law Greg Lain of Desoto, TX; his two daughters - Sandra Drummond Lippard (Jon Lippard) of Enid, OK; and Kimberly Drummond Money (Bob Money) of Alamogordo, NM; grandchildren Justin, Morgan, and Madison Lippard of Enid, OK; grandchildren Brent and Brayden Money of Alamogordo, NM; two brothers - Jack W. Drummond and Clif W Drummond both of Austin, TX along with their respective families; and, his sister-in-law Fayma (Downey) Drummond of Amarillo, TX; along with many other loved relatives and friends.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, GW and Llera (York) Drummond of Neinda and Hamlin; and his brother, Don Thurman Drummond of Hamlin.
Dave Drummond's career and service was as a high school coach. In fact, he was a Texas high school football coach and teacher - two of the toughest and most important jobs known to Texans. Dave was a grad assistant at Soccorro, New Mexico; West Texas A&M in Canyon, Texas; coached in Turkey, Texas; Stinnett, Texas; San Marcos, Texas; Lufkin, Texas; Fort Stockton, Texas; Pharr San-Juan Alamo North, Texas; and Conroe, Texas.
Services for Coach David Drummond will be held Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 11:00 am at First United Methodist Church, 4308 West Davis Street, Conroe, TX. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to the Youth Ministry at First United Methodist Church - Conroe, The Conroe ISD Education Foundation, or any youth organization of choice.

I am proud to have called him my friend. David was a principled man and in most respects a cut above average.
