Anita M Kelly of April Sound was a lively wife, mother, good friend to many, and active volunteer; she departed this life on Sunday, July 31, 2016. Anita was the wife of the late Paul M Kelly. She was born in Toms River, NJ on November 13, 1923, a daughter of Leo and Ida McClenahan.

Anita attended public schools in Toms River, and married her husband one month after he was discharged from active duty in World War II. Anita and Paul were initially residents of Queens and Westbury, NY before Paul accepted an auditing assignment with Shell Oil that took their family, which now included three children, to live in San Francisco, Sacramento, Los Angeles, Portland, St Louis, Cleveland, New Orleans, and finally Manhattan, when they settled in Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ. They moved to Houston in 1970, then to April Sound in 1981.

Anita worked as a secretary in churches in Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ; Houston; and April Sound. She also served as a Sunday School teacher, church pianist, and chair of Helping Hands, a ministry providing economic assistance to those who are temporarily unable to afford housing costs. She was thankful for the many good friends whom she met through her church, her community, and her bridge clubs over the years. She was devoted to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Anita is survived by her daughter Jean Warneke (Bob) of Austin and Cape Cod, her daughter Nancy Christy (Dewey) of Barrington, RI and her daughter-in-law Donna Kelly of Atascadero, CA. She leaves six grandchildren, Robin (Dan) Bruno of Forestdale, RI; Anita (Drew) Spieth of Cambridge, MA; Jenna (Eli) Severson of Monterey, CA; Weston Kelly of Alameda, CA; James (Lilly) Christy of Warren, RI; and Kevin Kelly of Atascadero, CA. Anita also leaves six great-grandchildren: Logan and Luke Bruno, Ellery and Neve Spieth, Nora Christy, and Lakota Severson. Anita is also survived by her sister Jean (Paul) Johnson of Williamsport, MD and by many beloved nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her son John Kelly and sisters Marjorie Greene and Mary Quilty.

Anita's friends are warmly invited to attend a memorial service at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 20 at April Sound Church, 67 April Wind South, April Sound; a reception will follow. Burial will take place in Toms River, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Helping Hands Fund at April Sound Church would be appreciated.
