Ann Elizabeth Portele Kurtin, 92, loving mother, wife, sister, grandmother and friend passed over that thin veil into the glory of God on Saturday December 26, 2015.

Born May 29, 1923 in Marlin, Texas to Hubert and Lillian Marek Portele. Preceded in death by her parents, husband Claude Kurtin and 3 sisters Lillian Goodwin, Rose Derkowski and Emily Gillis. She is survived by her 6 children: Dr. William E Kurtin, San Antonio, Claudia Banks (Terry) Cedar Hill, Tx, Kathryn Jeffries, Houston, Lillian Szabo (Larry) Seabrook, Tx, Mark Kurtin (Deborah) and Mary Kurtin, Houston and 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Numerous nieces and nephews.

A close knit family in Marlin, the Portele brothers moved to Houston Heights in the late '30s to provide for their families. Ann had many cousins growing up and that tradition carried down to the next generation. She graduated from Incarnate Word Academy in Houston. During this time she met the love of her life Claude Kurtin. He attended St Thomas High school and he saw her standing outside her school. He asked her if she had tickets to a dance and the rest is history. Married at All Saints church in 1942 their family soon started growing. With strong faith, love of family and zest for life, she provided outstanding care for her children and along with their dad, taught all of their children the importance of family. In 1970 with the kids grown, they moved to Panorama Village near Conroe Texas. Claude's love for golf won her over and they moved to this wonderful community and built a new home that became the family headquarters. She took up golf and could hit the straightest golf shots. Not far, but straight. Painting became another hobby and excelled in this too. Whatever life chose for her, she knew it was meant to be and gave it her all. With her strong faith always present, mother spent many years as a volunteer for the St Vincent DePaul Society at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was a long time member of The Catholic Daughters Immaculate Heart of Mary Court #1884.

A visitation will be held Sunday January 3, 2016 at Metcalf Funeral Home.... from 5-7 pm. Rosary to follow by The Catholic Daughters. A funeral mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Monday January 4, 2016 at 10:00. Burial will follow at Garden Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Kenneth Ray Brown, Robert Wayne Jeffries, Scott Allen Brown, Ryan Joshua Kurtin, Michael Kurtin and Joe Nowiczewski.
