Funeral services for Antonio L. "Tony" Gonzales, 83 of Giddings, will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011 at St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Giddings with Father James Olnhausen officiating. Burial will be in the Giddings City Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2011 from 7:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011 from 7:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. A Rosary will be recited Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. The family will be present for visitation Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Tony passed away on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011 at Brackenridge Hospital in Austin.

Antonio Lionila "Tony" Gonzales was born on Jan. 17, 1928 in Giddings to Andres & Maria Gonzales. He married Ernestine Cantu on Sept. 26, 1948 at St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Giddings. Tony was employed as a signal man with the railroad, was a truck driver and also worked for Nutrena Feeds before owning and operating the ARCO & Texaco gas stations in Giddings for 15 years. He retired from the TxDot where he had been employed for 15 years in the Giddings office as a roadway maintenance worker. Tony was a faithful member of St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Giddings, a founding member of the Knights of Columbus Council 8085, a 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus Council 1095 and a member of the Sacred Heart Society. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren, fishing, working and taking care of cattle at his farm and making barbeque. Tony was a great storyteller and always told and enjoyed a good joke. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed making people laugh.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Cecilia Smith; five brothers and one sister.

Tony is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ernestine Gonzales of Giddings; his children and their spouses, Mary Ann & Jerry Sudduth of Sealy, Esther & Sid Ferrales of Edmonds, WA, Cindy & Dennis Umlang of Conroe, Victor & Karen Gonzales of Giddings, Sylvia Sharp of Giddings and Veronica & Travis Hendrix of Giddings; nineteen grandchildren, Michael & Crina Sudduth of San Antonio, Teresa & Karl Owing of Junction, Stephen Sudduth of Bellville, Robert Sudduth & Greg Rikaart of Los Angeles, CA, Deborah & James Alexander of Colombia, SC, Christopher & Gabrielle Ferrales of Minneapolis, MN, Natalie & Ernesto Trius of Seattle, WA, Kyle & Kate Umlang of Austin, Lance Umlang of Conroe, Brian Umlang of Conroe, Amanda Gonzales of Tulsa, OK, Vinson Gonzales of San Antonio, Robby Sharp and Sydney Sharp both of Giddings, Millicent Hendrix, Elijah Hendrix, Nathaniel Hendrix, Jude Hendrix and Genevieve Hendrix all of Giddings; eleven great grandchildren, Holly Parsons of Sealy, Haley Parsons and Karly Parsons both of Junction, Dillon Alexander and Isabella Alexander both of Columbia, SC, Savino Ferrales and Julian Ferrales both of Minneapolis and Isaac Trius, Miles Trius, Stella Trius and Lucia Trius all of Seattle; three sisters; four brothers; four sisters-in-law; six brothers-in-law and by numerous nieces, nephews, godchildren and friends.

The family asks that memorials be made to the St. Margaret's Catholic Church Building Fund.
