The Guest Book is expired.

Arthur Joe Matlock was born on December 16, 1923 in Nacogdoches County, Texas. He was released by his Savior from the prison of Alzheimer's on September 12, 2011. Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, John and Nanny Matlock, and his two brothers and their wives, Emory Matlock and wife Imogene and Ray Matlock and wife Elva. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Judy Matlock; his son, Ron Matlock and wife Linda of Granbury; his two daughters, Gayle Curry of Conroe and Pam Perkins and husband Ken of Conroe; grandchildren, Steven Matlock and wife Kim of Lewisville, Jay Curry and wife Allison of Magnolia, Jill Curry and fiancé John O'Connor of Conroe, Megan Capps and husband Justin of Conroe and Matlock Perkins currently of Orlando, FL; great grandchildren, Airman first class Eric Matlock and wife Britney of Clovis, NM, Brandon Matlock of Lewisville, Carson and Carley Curry of Magnolia, Madelyn Curry of Conroe, Elizabeth Sheppard of Whitehouse, Peyton, Ashton, Triston and Corbin Capps of Conroe and great great granddaughter, Braylee of Clovis, NM. Special friends, Travis and Misty Petty, and their sons, Taylor and Caden of Conroe also survive as well as numerous other friends and extended family.

After graduating from high school, Joe continued his passion for learning, receiving a Masters degree from Sam Houston State University. He served his country in the U. S. Army Air Corps during WWII, receiving the Purple Heart and Air Medal after being wounded over Belgium during a mission into Germany.

Joe worked in the oil and gas refining industry for 30 years and retired from Charter Oil and Gas in 1984. He enjoyed 27 years of retirement full of serving and loving his Savior, his family, his church, his friends and neighbors and his passion for the game of golf. He had a standing T-time Monday thru Friday at April Sound Country Club until he was physically unable to play anymore. Our dad was a real renaissance man. There was nothing he could not do, build or repair.

Our deepest thanks go out to the staff at the Heritage Oaks Memory Care Unit and the Lighthouse Hospice for their gentle, loving care of our dad during his last days. May God richly bless each one of you.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 14, from 5 to 8 pm at Cashner Funeral Home. A celebration of his life will be held at Northside Baptist Church, 1115 N.
