(January 14, 1937 - December 27, 2011)

Barbara B. Hale, retired Cleveland High School teacher and long-time resident of Montgomery County, lost her valiant 17-month battle with cancer on Tuesday, December 27, 2011. Barbara, who was preceded in death by her husband C.E. "Connie" Hale and her sons Keith and John, lived in Splendora for many years.

Barbara Hale was born in Port Lavaca,Texas on January 14, 1937, the youngest child of Vincent and Regina Bomba. She grew up in Port Lavaca and graduated from Port Lavaca High School in 1957. Barbara attended Southwest Texas State, where she earned a degree in Education. After graduating from college, Barbara met Connie Hale and they were married on September 9, 1961, in Wharton, Texas. During the early years of their marriage, Connie's job in the construction industry resulted in the Hales living in various parts of the country. However, they settled down in Montgomery County and later bought a house on a 5-acre property in Splendora, where Barbara remained busy raising her son Keith, doing various craft projects, gardening, and pursuing her life-long passion for reading and popular literature. Barbara's fulfilling career as a special education teacher allowed her to touch and improve the lives of scores of young people, many of whom made it a point to remain in touch with her long after they had graduated and no longer had "Mrs. Hale" for class.

Barbara sometimes presented herself to the world in a gruff manner but her friends and family all knew that, in her own way, Barbara was a uniquely kind and caring person and a true friend. She was devoted to her husband and her son, loved being with her many friends, and also enjoyed the role of being the "favorite aunt" of her many nieces and nephews. Barbara is survived by her brother, John G. Bomba and his wife Jane, of Houston, a sister, Marjorie Peep and her husband Frank, of Chandler, Arizona, and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews, who reside in Alabama, Arizona, Mississippi, Texas, and Washington State. She was a uniquely independent and strong person who, while overcoming many struggles and losses, never lost her zest for life or her love for friends and family.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated for Barbara Hale at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 9900 Stella Link Road, Houston, Texas on Saturday, January 7th, 2012, at 11 AM, with a reception immediately following at the church.

The family is grateful for the compassionate care she received from the staffs of the M. D. Anderson Cancer Center and The Concierge Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center of Houston. Rather than flowers, the family requests that remembrances may be made to M. D. Anderson Cancer Center or to a .
