Betty Jean Babovec, age 82, passed away February 15, 2015 at home, surrounded by her loving family.

Betty was born January 11, 1933 in Houston, the city she called home for most of her life.

Betty graduated Summa Cum Laude from Stephen F. Austin High School, Houston in 1950.

She then attended Durham Business College in Downtown Houston, graduating in the top tier of her class.

Betty was employed at the Oldsmobile Division of General Motors for 27 years, rising to the position of Executive Secretary to the Zone Director.

Upon retirement from Oldsmobile, Betty and husband Edmund, moved to Rusk, Texas, where she was a substitute teacher for 13 years.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Thurman E. and Vora Payne, her husband Edmund J. Babovec, Brother in Law, Charles D. Harvey and Nephew Charles D. Harvey Jr.

Betty is survived by her Daughter and Son in Law, Deborah T. and Greg D. Hooker; Son and Daughter in Law, Greg P. and Jo Anna K. Zachary; Sister. Lois M. Harvey; Grandson Terry R. Hooker and wife Kristina; Grandson Trenton R. Hooker; Grandson Michael A. Scott and wife Heather; Grandson Russell C. Scott and Nephew Michael T. Harvey and wife Janice.

Betty was blessed with 4 Great-Grandchildren, each surviving her as well.

Betty was baptized at an early age at Park Memorial Baptist Church, Houston. Later in her life she was an active member of Brentwood Baptist Church, Houston; First Baptist Church, Rosenberg; East Side Baptist Church., Rusk and Memorial Baptist Church, Spring. Betty carried the word of God with her, in her heart every day of her life.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Dr. John Griffin, whose presence gave Mother the strength to fight another day. Also to Compassionate Care Hospice and the staff at Caregiver Connection who assisted Mother with great dignity during her last journey of life; Debbie Hanlon, Stephanie Crawford and Marilyn Newbill.

Services will be held Thursday February 19, 2015 at 1:30 PM, American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veteran's Memorial Dr. Houston, TX. 77038. Rev. Cliff Mayton officiating. Interment Monday February 23, 2015 at 11AM for immediate family.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Betty's name to DePelchin Children's Center, 4950 Memorial Dr., Houston, TX. 77007, or the .
