Betty McWilliams Lormand (81) went to be with her faithful Lord and Savior on Friday, November 27, 2015. Betty passed peacefully, holding her beloved husband's hand, and surrounded by her children and family at home in April Sound. Betty was an ovarian cancer survivor and was battling leukemia for eighteen months but always maintained her beautiful smile and strong spirit to fight her illness. She was born on December 13, 1933, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi and was the only child of Ruth and Amos Howell. After the death of her father, Betty and her mother Ruth moved with her grandparents to Springhill, Louisiana. Betty was raised in an exceptionally loving Christian home with her Mother, Aunt Bert, and her Grandparents, Mama and Papa. Betty had many wonderful childhood memories, but her favorite times were her summers going to church camp in Mandeville, Louisiana on Lake Ponchatrain.

While attending Southern Arkansas University (formerly Southern State) in Magnolia she met and married Morris McWilliams (Mac) of Macedonia, Arkansas. In 1954 Morris joined the US Army and was sent to Frankfurt, Germany. Betty joined him there where their first child, Robert Michael was born. After the tour in Germany they moved to College Station so Morris could finish his degree in Petroleum Engineering. In 1956 their second child, Rebecca, was born in Bryan. After graduation they moved to Shreveport, Louisiana where their third child, Carol was born. They returned to Texas A&M for Morris to get his Master's degree in Petroleum Engineering. Soon their fourth child Mark was born in Bryan, Texas. She was a proud Aggie and thrilled three of her grandchildren, and a niece carried on the tradition. Betty and Morris were married twenty two years and moved more than twenty times following the oil industry. Betty was the consummate, beautiful Christian mother with a tremendous faith and she was the glue of our family.

In 1974 Betty started a career as a secretary working for The Houston Post; Farm & Home Savings, Gulf Oil Chemicals, Way Engineering and finally The Houston Chronicle. In 1975 she was blessed to meet Leroy Lormand, the "love of her life", at a sing along for Parents With-Out Partners in Houston. They each had four children and they married in 1976, blending their families together. Leroy enjoyed spoiling Betty and they traveled extensively throughout the United States and many of Mexico's resorts. They always had a project going and shared many things together; cooking, boating, a weekend home on Lake Conroe, and finally having a home built in April Sound. Betty loved April Sound Church, her Bible Study, and all her church activities. She cherished family gatherings at her home. Until recently, Betty always enjoyed keeping an immaculate, beautifully decorated home, preparing daily delicious meals and desserts for her family. She delighted in being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Betty had a deep faith in God all her life. She was known in the family to always be mailing little articles of spiritual value or just funny things that she wanted to share with them. It meant a lot to her when someone would say "What you sent was just what I needed to hear today." She will always be remembered for her strong faith and grace.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Amos and Ruth Howell, her grandparents, Lee and Elizabeth Johnson, her first husband, Morris McWilliams, her aunts, Bertha Johnson and Geraldine Coker, her cousins Elizabeth Owens and Laura Olejnik, her son Mike McWilliams, her daughter Rebecca Wheeler, step-daughters Renee Mashue and Linda Brown and grand-daughter Angela Pearson. She is survived by her beloved husband of 39 years, Leroy Lormand, daughter and son-in-law Carol and Steve Jordan, son Mark McWilliams, daughter-in-law Ginny McWilliams, step daughter Melanie Campbell and step daughter Marilyn and Chuck Brown, her grandchildren Shane and Natalie McAfee, Kristen McAfee Wheeler, Meryl McWilliams, Chris and Callie Jordan, Michael and Bri Jordan, Sam Jordan, Brett and Shari Campbell, Blake and Selam Campbell, Brittany Campbell, Autumn Mashue, James and Jennifer Whatley, Kristi Pearson, Justin Pearson, Tiffany Pearson, Abigale Pearson and Jason Murdock. She was also blessed with 16 precious great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Friday, December 4 th at Metcalf Funeral Directors, Conroe, Texas from 5-7 pm. The funeral will be Saturday, December 5 th at April Sound Church, Montgomery, Texas at 1:00 pm.
