CAROL HELEN MACAN, age 78, of Bentwater in Montgomery, TX, passed away Tuesday, October 1, 2013. She was born December 19, 1934 to Carolyn and James Fitzgerald in Omaha, Nebraska. She received her nursing degree from St. Catherine's School of Nursing, affiliated with Creighton University. Carol celebrated 52 years of marriage to John J. Macan, who preceded her in death. Carol embraced being the wife of a Naval officer, making good friends and loving homes coast to coast. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who cherished spending time with her family and was actively involved in her daughters' hobbies, especially showing horses. Carol spent much time traveling and in retirement delighted in family vacations to Europe and Florida. An avid sports fan, her interests also included needlepoint, cooking and her dining out and Bible study groups. She is survived by her six daughters: Christine Macan, Maureen Macan, Kathleen Dorman and husband Steve, Lisa Wilson and husband Storm, Mary Heemsoth and husband Todd, and Suzanne Macan; eight grandchildren: Catherine and Cameron Dorman; Macan, Seagren and Hallie Wilson; and Ava, Hale and Zane Heemsoth; her siblings: Joan Obarski (Harry), Kathleen Lazure (the late Jim), Larry Fitzgerald (Rosemary) and Tim Fitzgerald. She is preceded in death by her husband, John J. Macan, and her brother, Reverend James E. Fitzgerald. Visitation will be held from 3:00 - 6:00 pm with a rosary to be recited at 5:00 pm on Sunday, October 6, 2013 at Forest Park The Woodlands Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held Monday, October 7, 2013 at 10:30 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 8227 County Road 205, Plantersville, Texas, 77363. A private burial will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center for Ovarian Cancer Research or to the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
