Cashmere "Kie" J. Kopczynski, age 86, passed away peacefully with his wife by his side, Thursday, September 19, 2013. He was born in New Waverly, Texas and spent his childhood in the Grimes County area. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Maggie Kopczynski, and daughter, Frances Kopczynski Saunders. He was next to the oldest of 7 children and is preceded in death by 5 of those siblings, Martha, John, Gertrude, Ignatius, and Betty. He is survived by his wife of almost 65 years, Margaret Busa Kopczynski; daughter, Helen Lockner and husband Larry; step-grandchildren and their families; sister, Margaret Ann Bukowski and husband Charles; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Kie served in the US Army and was about to be sent overseas when WWII ended and he was honorably discharged. When Kie and Margaret were married in 1948, they moved from Anderson, TX to Houston Heights area. In 1951 Kie and Margaret moved their young family to North Houston where he became a long time faithful member of Assumption Catholic Church. He worked for Houston Packing Co. and then Missouri Pacific Trucking Co. as a truck driver. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Assumption Church Harvest Years Group, Golden Years, Polish National Alliance, American Legion, and Houston Area Daylily Society. Kie made friends easily and had quite the gift of gab. He loved going to the casinos and often organized bus trips there. When the Polish Home was operational, he enjoyed cooking for the various events. He will be dearly missed by all. Visitation will held 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 pm, Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home, with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at Assumption Catholic Church, 901 Rose Lane, Houston, Texas 77037. Rite of Committal will follow at Forest Park Lawndale, 6900 Lawndale Ave., Houston, Texas. Followed by a Reception at Assumption Catholic Church. The family wished to thank the staff at Park Manor Cypress Station and Rose of Texas Hospice for their care during these last difficult months. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Kie's memory to Harvest Years Group, c/o Assumption Catholic Church, or to a .
