It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Cavan Gerard Brophy. Cavan was born January 14,1951 to Fenton John Brophy and Barbara Elizabeth Bauer Brophy in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and passed away March 7, 2016 in Conroe, Texas.

Cavan lived most of childhood in Stellarton, Nova Scotia moving to Hampton New Brunswick with his family for a short time where his father passed away suddenly in 1966 at which time his family returned to their family home in Stellarton. After graduation from university, he worked in various industries such as newspaper advertising and scuba diving instruction, but eventually decided to return to school and pursue his dream of becoming a nurse. After graduation from nursing school in 1990 he was recruited to Houston, Texas where he worked for one year before moving to the "country" in Huntsville, Texas where he lived and worked for thirteen years. After retirement, Cavan split his time between home in Texas and his cottage on Big Island, Nova Scotia surrounded by numerous friends and family.

In 2009, Cavan became a Master Freemason with the Grand Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of Nova Scotia at Sunrise Lodge #116. Cavan loved his family and life and was never afraid of adventure and trying new things. He loved horses, reading, hunting, traveling and playing golf and video games, and his beloved dog, Dolly.

Cavan was preceeded in death by his parents and his father-in-law, George T. Williamson. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Barbara, his sons, Sean and Tanya Brophy and Liam and Andrea Brophy, daughters, Elizabeth Hightower and Molly Hightower, grandchildren, Morgan and Erika Brophy, Micaela, Georgia and Oliver Brophy, Jeremy Evans and Kingston Jones, sisters, Katherine Ann Beatty (Charlie), Barbara MacLeod (Allan), Colleen Saulnier (Wayne), Theresa Jackson (Michael), brothers, John Brophy, Patrick Brophy (Patti), Michael Brophy (Carol), Dennis Brophy (Amanda) and Tim Brophy (Alicia), and god-daughter, Emma Brophy and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at McNutt Funeral home in Conroe, Texas March 15, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. and his remains will be taken home to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia.
