Memorial services for Charles R. Porter, 83, of Conroe, TX will be held on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018 at 2:30 P.M. in the chapel at Conroe Funeral Directors with Pastor John Davidhizer officiating.

Born on October 11, 1934 in Houston, TX to Charles and Josephine Porter, and passed away on January 3, 2018 in Conroe, TX.

Charles proudly served his country during the Korean War in the Navy aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Philippine Sea and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. He attended college at Sam Houston State University and after graduating became an early pioneer in computer banking and was an owner-operator of Sky Harbor Air Service, Cheyenne, Wyoming. Later in life, he received Jesus as his savior and was a deacon in Thee Evergreen Congregational Church where his faith grew as the years passed by.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Anderson Porter and his sister, Jody Bennett. Survived by his loving family: wife, Laura Beth Porter; daughter, Charlyn Porter Williams and husband David; step daughter, Lisa Burks; sister, Grady Claire Porter; grandchildren, Brian Williams and wife Lauren, Jeremy Williams and wife Megan, Katie Franklund and husband Devin, Michael Burks and wife Hannah, Joseph Burks and Laura Burks; great grandchildren, Maci, Morgan and Paisley Williams, and Presleigh Claxton; extended family, Gladys and Chloe McWashington; and many other relatives and friends.

A special thank you to the care givers and administrative staff of Village Green Alzheimer's Care Home and also to the Traditions Hospice caregivers. Donations may be made to the or to Thee Evergreen Congregational Church.
