Cornelius Shields, Sr. grace this earth with his presence for 62 wonderful years. He was born on March 24, 1952 to proud and loving parents Clover Shields Sr. and Rosia V. Byrd- Shields. Cornelius was baptized by Rev. Wilbert Byrd at an early age at Porter Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church in Dobbin, Texas under the leadership of Pastor Donald Daniels.

Cornelius attended school in the Montgomery County school district where he went to Dobbin Elementary School and Lincoln/Montgomery High School were he graduated Class of 1969-1970. During this time Cornelius Shields, Sr. received recognition for contributing to winning the State Championship in football against Madisonville and he was also recognized as the 2nd leading scorer in the Nation in basketball.

On September 26, 1971, Cornelius Shields, Sr. married his High School sweetheart and soul mate Gloria Taylor Shields (Bitsy) to this union was born 2 sons Cornelius Shields, Jr(deceased) and Kelvin Shields.

Cornelius was a dedicated and devoted Man of God, who truly loved his entire family genuinely. He had an awesome spirit, he was outgoing, warm hearted, and expressd his love for God. Everywhere he travled he made a friend and helped people along his journey.

Cornelius leaves o cherish his memory, his devoted and faithful wife, Gloria Taylor Shields (Bitsy); son Kelvin Shields (Kwanza) Marquis, Asia;(Darlin) Kelshawn, Kayla Shields; mother rosia V. Shields; two aunts Carrie V. Lane and Addie Marie Dove; two uncles Benjamin Byrd Sr. (Johnny) and Albert Byrd, Sr. (Rosie); sisters, Marilyn Shields (Kookie) and Shirley Renee Parker Shields (Clyde)' brothers, Clover Shields, Jr., Robert J. Shields, Sr. (Sharon), Michael Shields, Sr. (Laurie), Timothy Shields, Sr. (Kenya); one sister-in-law Mary Williams(Jeff Williams deceased); Grandchildren: Kelshawn Shields, Kayla Shields, Marquis Shields and Asia Shields; God child, Markell Shields, Jeffical Williams, Demetria Smith (Nikki); and host of special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Visitation will be held from 1-2pm the funeral will begin at 2:00 P.M. both services will be held Sunday, September 27, 2014 at Gary Chapel Baptist Church 5525 Spring Branch Rd. Montgomery, Texas 77316. Interment: Yell Cemetery.
