David Michael Arthur was born in Columbia, Maryland to Catherine and Vaughn Arthur and was the younger brother to Brian. David unexpectedly took his own life one month ago at age 18 in Houston, Texas.

David was an avid and accomplished trumpet player, and participated in the symphonic, jazz and marching bands at Atholton High School in Columbia, and in the pep band and marching band at Towson University in Maryland. He spent hours teaching himself to play challenging classical pieces on the piano, and particularly loved Debussy's compositions. David loved music, playing and marching with the band, studying Scripture, being out in nature, summer camp, bike rides, working out, swimming and ice skating.

David took Jesus' commands to "love God" and "love others as much as you love yourself" to heart. His recent years were marked by his love for God, his outgoing friendly demeanor, and his genuine compassion for others. When David saw someone alone or hurting, he reached out to try to encourage and make them feel included. For David, "How ya doin?" wasn't just a greeting, it was a genuine question. He was a loving son and brother, and often spoke of wanting to eventually be a missionary. His suicide is an inexplicable contradiction to the way he lived his life and the things he held dear, and it has stunned and devastated his family and friends.

David is survived by his mother, father and brother, paternal grandparents and maternal grandmother, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and countless friends.

His family will receive friends on Saturday, November 8th from 5-6pm at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Montgomery, Texas and a memorial service will begin at 6pm in the Chapel of the funeral home.

You are invited to leave written memorials to his family on our website at www.shmfh.com.
