Dan W. Nichol III, 71, of Conroe, Texas passed away on Thursday, January 26th, 2017 in Conroe.

Dan was born on November 2, 1945 in Amarillo, Texas, son of Dave and Margrette Nichol. He graduated from Conroe High School in 1964 and attended Texas A&M University on a golf scholarship. Dan joined the U.S. Army in 1967 and was a Drill Instructor stationed in Germany during Vietnam. His career in the oil and gas industry spanned over 30+ years traveling the U.S, Europe, and Middle East.

Conroe Country Club is where Dan developed his love for the game of golf. As an active member since 1951, he grew up on that course with friends who became brothers and would ultimately give him one of many nicknames....The Mole.

As much as he enjoyed to travel and explore, it is the people and relationships he developed along the way that meant the most to him. After becoming a grandfather in 2014, he decided to retire to a life of golfing or fishing everyday...to which the wind would decide.

In September, his son, Jason and wife Brooke took Dan and family to Monterey, California to play the famous Pebble Beach golf links celebrating his retirement and love of golf. It was a trip of a lifetime where many memories were made that we will never forget.

His smile, sense of humor, and his extraordinary storytelling will be greatly missed. Most of all, Dan will be remembered as a man who truly loved life, his family, especially being "Pop Pop" to his granddaughter; and the many friends who had the opportunity to cross his path through the years.

Dan is survived by his son, Jason Nichol, wife Brooke and granddaughter, Miller Grace of Austin, and his brother Rick and Janice Nichol of The Woodlands. Nieces include: Kelley Henry and Laura Henry of Austin, and Claire Jeffcoat of Willis. Dan is also survived by his very special girlfriend, Giga Treat. Jason's mother, Pat Nichol, and many loving family and friends also survive.

Visitation with the family will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2017 in the chapel at the McNutt Funeral Home located at 1600 Porter Rd., Conroe ,Texas from 12:00pm - 2:00pm. The service will be held at 2:00 pm immediately following the Visitation. The burial will be held at 3:00 pm in Conroe Memorial Park Cemetery.
