Delma Olivia Schroder died September 26, 2013 at Colonial Oaks Assisted Living Sugarland, Texas where she resided after suffering a stroke at her home on Lake Forest Falls near Conroe, TX in 2009. She was born March 8, 1916 in Tecula, east Texas to R. King and Nellie Albright. She graduated from high school in Jacksonville, TX where she played basketball and excelled as a student. Delma helped support the family of four siblings by picking cotton. As a young adult she moved to Houston where she worked as a "Harvey Girl", while she attended business school. She then worked for Alamo Freight Line where she met and soon married August W. Schroder. When WWII began they moved to Southern California where August trained GIs at Camp Roberts, and Delma worked on the post as a secretary. After the war they returned to the Houston Heights where they built a home and raised two sons. In 1968 they moved to the Conroe area when August retired due to poor health.

Delma is survived by her sons, Michael and Gene Schroder; their wives, Linda and Sherry Schroder; two grandchildren, Catherine Raver and Steven Schroder; their spouses Shawn Raver and Elizabeth Hanks; and two great grandchildren, Peyton Raver and Adeline Schroder.

Delma raised her boys in Zion Lutheran church in Houston where she was a choir member. She was one of the founding members of Grace Lutheran Church in Conroe. She loved the challenges of crossword puzzles and was an avid reader. Delma enjoyed her family, needle work, cooking, bridge, swimming, gardening, and painting. She courageously defended her independence and managed her home and business affairs after her husband died in 1991. She loved to tell her children and grandchildren stories of her life as the daughter of a share cropper, the hardships of the depression, and the great friends she has known in her lifetime. She will be missed by all who loved her.

The family would like to express their thanks to Clarisa Woods and the wonderful caretakers at Colonial Oaks Assisted Living for the love and support they provide Delma during the last years of her life. A memorial service will be held Thursday Oct 3 at 3:00 pm at Cashner Funeral Home in Conroe. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be sent to the Conroe Branch of the Montgomery County Memorial Library 104 I-45 North Conroe, TX 77301.
