Denver Jenkins Wathen Jr. was born March 22, 1931 in Independence, Kansas to Denver Jenkins Sr. and Daisy Marie Wathen. He was preceded in death by his parents, his younger brother, Neil Preston and his eldest son, Irby Peter Wathen. Denver passed at home in the presence of his wife and family on September 15, 2011.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda Glyn Wathen of Conroe, his children, Carolyn Denise Taylor of Humble, Vern Thomas Wathen of Conroe and Juliana Marie Wathen of Houston. Special acknowledgment is extended to Fred Martinez of Montgomery, Texas and his wife Olga, who came into the family later in life and was as much a son to Denver as anyone for over 25 years. Denver is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is best known for his television show "Freshwater Fishing-Texas Style" on KUHT TV Houston which launched in 1974. He left the show in 1977 and began working internationally as an American Resident Pro-Angler in Cuba, the Yucatan and Mexico. Denver spent his retirement years tinkering with military surplus sales, ceramics and restoring rods and reels.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011 at Conroe Funeral Directors at 11:00 am, 1504 N. Thompson St. Please dress casually.
