Dewayne, 52, was born on October 3, 1964 in Bakersfield, California. He passed away on August 5, 2017 in The Woodlands, Texas. Dewayne was the youngest of five children. He was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes at the young age of 10. He was a fighter, but after forty-two years of battling the disease, he was tired and his heart could not take any more. Dewayne was sad by the fact that he would not be able to be an organ donor. However, after his passing we found out he could be a tissue donor. His donation was enough to help over 60 people. We know this has made him proud.

Anyone who knew Dewayne knew his love for his 5 kids, 7 grandkids, Volkswagens, music, dirt bikes, and camping. His laugh was infectious. No matter how many times he watched the movie Grownups, he would laugh so hard he nearly fell out of his chair - he knew every word to that movie. Dewayne loved his pup Skrappy who we lost a few years ago. His new sidekick was his sweet shelter pup, Cowgirl. He had a shoe fetish worse than most women, an extensive t-shirt collection, and enough toys to fill a toy box - mostly consisting of VW and dirt bike models. Dewayne made sure to take his kids camping as often as possible, always inviting friends and family. He loved to make up his own words to songs on the radio and could beat just about anyone at music trivia. You would often find him in the garage, working on the bikes he was building and refurbishing. He was working on starting a business called Jack O Lantern Cruisers. He named each bike he built/rebuilt.

Dewayne made friends everywhere he went. He loved to share funny stories and make people laugh. He would make up goofy nicknames, make funny faces, and always had his fingers in the 'bunny ears' position for family pictures. He was proud of each one of his children. He was very proud to become a grandfather and will always be 'Pops' to each of them.

Dewayne is preceded in death by his son, Patrick Grimes, father James D. Grimes, Sr., grandparents Opal and Wiley Grimes, and Henry Brown, and brother-in-law Bobby Kendrick. He is survived by his wife Christa, daughters Chantell and Mikayla Grimes, sons and daughters-in-laws Christopher and Ashley Grimes, Joshua and Faith Grimes, his grandchildren Marrilynn, Maddilynn, CJ, Zilyn, Zanden, Zyler and Zaphira, mother Cleo Marshall and step father Leo Marshall, parents-in-law, Millie and Robert Higginbotham and Steve and Donna Kendrick, brother and sister-in-law, Danny and Patti Grimes, sisters and brothers-in-law, Diana and Keith Godwin, Debi and Nicholas Chavez, and Delana and Mike Forcillo, stepbrothers, Jake and his wife Heidi Marshall, and Leo Marshall Jr., brother-in-law and sister-in-law Garrett and PJ Kendrick, nieces Jaime Powell, Heather Borreli, Megan Alkire, Nicole Fleming, Jennifer Breitenbach, Erin Vogel, Tricia Stotts, Janaye and Heather Marshall, nephews Jeremy Godwin, Nicholas Parker, Zachary Seales, J.R. and Maverick Kendrick, and numerous great nieces, great nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is also survived by very dear friends who have become family, Keith & Michelle Logan with their children and Steve & Melissa Richard with their son Michael, as well as the additional stray children he picked up along the way, Bianca Braddock, Joshua Steward, John Manno, Destiny Fluellen, and many more.

It will be an open house hosted by his niece Jennifer and her husband Brant. Please email Jennifer at [email protected] for location information. Prayer and eulogy led by our dear friend, Cyndy Glasgow around 3pm. The second service will be held in Bakersfield, California on Monday, August 21, 2017, at 11am at Riverlakes Ranch Community Center, 3825 Riverlakes Drive, Bakersfield, CA 93312. Prayer and eulogy will be led by Dewaynes aunt-in-law, Jan Kendrick. Dewayne's final wish was to have his ashes, along with those of his beloved pup, Skrappy, spread in the mountains at his favorite place to camp and trail ride. We will be honoring his wishes.
