Dorothy Walker was born in Muskogee, OK on April 8, 1926 and passed away May 11, 2015. She was preceded in death by her father, Leo L. Cox; her mother, Ruby Bledsole Cox; her sisters Mabel Boehler Amspoker and Frances Hyatt Brood; her brother, Leo L. Cox, Jr.; and her husband of 57 years, Pat Walker (Mabin A. Walker, Jr.). She is survived by three sons, Mabin A. (Andy) Walker, III and wife, Shirley; Jerry Leo Walker; and Deryl Dean Walker and wife, Debbie; grandchildren, Jerry L. Walker, Jr. and wife, Olga; John David Walker; Patrick Andrew Walker and wife, Khristene; Jacqueline Dean Walker; and Madeline Jessie Walker; three great-grandchildren, Caleb Mileski, Jerry Riley Walker and Maxwell Alexander Walker; brother-in-law, Cleveland Birdwell of Liberty; numerous nieces and nephews; and very special friends, Carolyn Walker, Ida Kelly, Wanda Wilson and Tomas Romero; and many, many, many other friends.

Dorothy graduated from Conroe High School in 1943, where she was a majorette while in school. She obtained a bachelors and masters degree from Sam Houston State Teachers College (Sam Houston State University). She taught school in New Caney ISD, Splendora ISD, and Conroe ISD in excess of 40 years. Her specialty and favorite class was reading. She was instrumental in creating the reading labs in Conroe ISD and worked for many years in this capacity as a reading specialist. While teaching school and after retirement, she had a reading lab in her home where she assisted students with their reading. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma for many years, a member of the Pan American Round Table, an auxiliary member of the American Legion in Willis, a member of the Presbyterian Women's Circle for over 65 years, and a member of the Presbyterian Church all her life. She was a Jayceette in the Montgomery County Junior Chamber of Commerce wherein one year she was named Jayceette of the Year for outstanding work and achievement. At one point in her life after retirement, with the assistance of her husband, Pat, she owned and cared for over 300 head of cattle. The last time she was thrown from a horse, she was over 65 years old (no broken bones). She was an extraordinarily strong woman, from whom all of her family draws strength.

Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00PM Thursday May 14, 2015 at Metcalf Funeral Directors. The service will be 10:00AM Friday at Metcalf Funeral Directors with the interment to follow in Garden Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you buy a book and give it to someone and/or read it to someone in memory of Dorothy Walker.
