Doyle Victor Ebel went to heaven on March 18, 2017 at the age of 93. He was born March 17, 1924 in Houston, Texas. He joined the Army Air Corp March 18, 1943. He married Pattye Hambrick August 24, 1943.

He served in the Pacific Theater during WWII as a member of the 26 th Bombardment Squadron and the 11 th Bombardment Group. He flew on a B24 bomber named the Jeeter Bug. Among many decorations, he received the Distinguished Flying Cross Many years later a film was broadcast on PBS about the perils of the Jeeter Bug Crew after their plane engine was shot out over Chi Chi Jima and was forced to make an emergency landing on Iwo Jima during the battle. The crew was also memorialized in a book "Brothers At Daybreak".

At the end of the war he returned to Houston and eventually found his way into the Houston Fire Department. He was one of the first firefighters to complete the Associate Degree in Fire Science Technology. He ascended to the rank of District Chief and retired after more than 40 years of fire service. He never forgot his "boys".

His favorite past time was working in his woodshop creating inlaid projects. During his life he enjoyed camping and fishing. He was a member of the 11 th Bombardment Group Association and a member of the Tree of Life Lutheran Church.

He is survived by wife of 73 years Pattye Ebel, son Roger Ebel and wife Katherine, daughters Melody Wilson and husband Clenton and Judy Booth and husband Rick, grandchildren Darren, Wilson, Shellie Sauber, Curtis Wilson, Jeff Ebel, Kevin Booth and their spouses and 7 great grandchildren. He is predeceased in death by granddaughter Vickey Booth.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at 5:00pm to 8:00pm at Cashner Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 23, 2017 at 11:00am at Tree of Life Lutheran Church (3201 N. Loop 336 W. Conroe, TX 77304). Interment will follow in Garden Park Cemetery.
