Edith Pauline Shenkir Clayton, 94, of San Antonio died Wednesday, June 4, 2014 in a San Antonio hospital. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 14, 2014 at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home with Father Edward Karasek officiating.

Mrs. Clayton was born June 3, 1920 in Seaton to Edward Joseph and Elnora Berta (Katchtik) Shenkir. On the 4th day of August, 1935 she was confirmed in the Czech Moravian Church in Buckholts, Texas by Pastor Frank Horak. She was married to Kermet Ennis Clayton on June 6, 1945 in the parsonage of the Methodist Church of Rogers, Texas. Three children were born to them: Kermeta "Kay" Jan Clayton, Karla Gay Clayton and David Houston Clayton.

Her focus on family came in her early childhood and continued throughout her entire life. Years of research resulted in her genealogical-historical publications for the Shenkir-Dusek and Kachtik-Hoyack sides of her family. Edith was exceptionally well-read in archeology and history. She loved cooking, sewing, and playing dominoes and Scrabble with friends and family, and was a prolific oil and watercolor artist.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 62 years, her beloved daughter, Kermeta, and siblings Calvin, Ramona and Bill. She is survived by: daughter Karla Clayton Pollock, son David; grandsons, Jon Michael Pollock & wife Celeste and James Patrick Pollock; brother Isadore Shenkir, sister Helen Gaas; sisters-in-law Barbara Shenkir, Bernice Shenkir, Josephine Shenkir and brother-in-law Franklin Karasek, Sr.
