Ernest L. Butler Sr. was born in Houston, Texas, on December 26, 1927 and passed away to be received by Christ on April 12,2016.

He was a beloved father and active member of the community. He served in World War II in the US Navy on the USS Blue Ridge (LCC-19) and witnessed the Atomic Bomb detonations on Bikini Island.

For over 60 years, he was a prominent homebuilder in Montgomery County with hundreds of homes to his credit. He was an integral part in the development of many residential subdivisions and commercial properties. Highlights of his community service included becoming a 32nd Degree Shriner, a member of the City of Conroe Police Reserves, and a member of the 4th Degree of the Knights of Columbus. He liked to go hunting, fishing/shrimping, and boating with his friends and family. He enjoyed collecting many things and his favorite was Lionel trains.

Approximately ten years ago, he was stricken with Alzheimer's which resulted in his death. Ernest was baptized in the Catholic Church in 1979, and later reaffirmed his dedication to Christ at Promise Keepers in Dallas.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Bessie A. Butler, and children Ernest L. Butler Jr. with wife Cathy, Belinda Butler Currey with husband Larry, Pamela Butler O'Keefe, and Rockey L. Butler with wife Stacey. His grandchildren include: Ernest L. Butler III, Kacey L. Butler, Jonathan M. Currey, Candis L. Smith, Cameron C. O'Keefe, Connor K. O'Keefe, Faith L. Butler, and Blake P. Butler. His great grandchildren include: Ernest Ethan Butler, Levi W. Butler, Emma C. Currey, Evelyn M. Currey, and Jamison M. O'Keefe.

Services will be held on Saturday, April 16, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Waverly, Texas. Interment will be at Elmina Cemetery with a reception to be held afterwards at the St. Joseph Parish Hall.
