Estelle Lela Strickland, 79, passed away on Monday evening, March 18th in Montgomery, Texas with her loving family at her side. She was born to Mary Ann and John Thomas McIntyre on February 21, 1934 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and moved to Houston, Texas as a young child.

In 1951, she graduated from Milby High School in Houston. She married Darrell Strickland, her high school sweetheart, on April 19, 1952 and moved to Tennessee where her husband was stationed in the Air Force. Her first child, a son, was born in Houston. The couple was later transferred to the Tachikawa Air Base near Tokoyo, Japan where another son was born. After the Air Force, the couple resided in Houston, Texas where Estelle began her career in insurance. They later resided in Montgomery, Texas until they were transferred to Kansas City in 1979. Estelle continued her career at Yellow Freight in Kansas where she was a member of the Overland Park Baptist Temple. Following her husband's death in 1981, she returned to Texas to be near her family and was employed by Louisiana Pacific in Conroe until she retired. She became an active member of the First Baptist Church in Montgomery.

She was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Estelle leaves behind two sons, Randy Strickland and his wife, Beverly of Montgomery, Douglas Strickland of Overland Park, Kansas; five grandchildren, Renee Beken, Darrell, Derek, Daron and Danielle Strickland; numerous great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Ida Kronenberger of Houston and Mrs. Billie Jean Mahaney of Pasadena; nieces, nephews and numerous friends. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Darrell Strickland and her step-brother Stanley Cedargreen. We will always carry her memory in our hearts.

Visitation will be held on Monday, March 25th at the Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Montgomery, Texas from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 26th at 10:00 a.m. in the First Baptist Church, Montgomery, Texas. Burial will take place following the service at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Montgomery, Texas. You are invited to leave memorial condolences at www.shmfh.com
