Frances Allen Huffman

1915-2015

Frances A. Huffman, 99, was born on December 2, 1915 in Okolona, Mississippi to John and Alta Allen and died August 30, 2015 in The Woodlands, TX. She spent her childhood in the Houston, MS area graduating from Houston MS High School. She then attended the University of Mississippi until the start of WWII when she returned home and met and married Theodore G. Huffman. During WWI they lived in a number of states while he served in the Army Air Corps including Florida and Texas. After WWII they moved to Jackson, MS and soon thereafter to Oxford, MS where she obtained her B.A. in Elementary Education while T.G. was serving during the Korean War. They then moved back to Jackson, MS where she taught in the Jackson Public Schools and St. Andrews Day School for more than 30 years. During that time she received her Masters Degree in Counseling and School Administration from Mississippi College. She taught and was active in Broadmoor Baptist Church until moving to the Houston area in 1984.

Frances was a loving and loyal wife, mother and grandmother and will be remembered for her kindness and generosity. She was an excellent teacher and seamstress. She was loved and respected by her many students and friends.

Preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, her parents, sister Laura Cook and her daughter Ann King, she is survived by her daughter Louise H. Bethea, M.D. and son in law Henry L. Bethea, M.D., Ph.D., of The Woodlands, three grandchildren: Mary Whitmer and her husband Brian and great-grand daughter Matilda of Portland, Oregon, Samuel Bethea of The Woodlands and Sarah Bethea of Columbia, SC.

We would like to thank the staff of Brookstone-The Woodlands and Heart to Heart Hospice for their excellent loving care.

Visitation will be at Klein Funeral Home in Tomball, TX on Thursday morning, 9/3/15 at 9:00am with the funeral to follow. Interment will follow at Houston National Cemetary. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Baptist Church of The Woodlands.
